Betrothed to the Lord

“I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the Lord.” Hosea 2:19-20

I believe one of the most beautiful love stories is found in Hosea.

Here we find Hosea, a prophet and man of God.

Told to marry Gomer, the daughter of a prostitute.

God is going to use Hosea as an example to the people.

To show them of His love for them.

The people of God in this time have turned away from Him and are serving other gods.

They have abandoned their first love.

Hosea marries Gomer and then she leaves him.

In the end though she is his bride, He has to buy her back.

No matter what she does or how badly she hurts Hosea.

God tells him to go and get her and love her.

As believers of Christ, we have been betrothed to the Lord.

Not according to anything we have done but based completely upon His righteousness, justice, love compassion and faithfulness.

Or betrothal to the Lord is based on all He has done for us!

I am my beloved’s and He is mine. Song of Solomon 6:3

Though we fail and fall away, He is always faithful.

Though we turn from and worship other things, He is always read and willing to rebuke and restore us.

Though we have nothing to offer Him, He offers us everything we need, in Christ.

Oh, what a Savior.

Oh Lord, it is so hard to keep perspective. So easy to get distracted. So hard to keep the main thing the main thing. Forgive us for straying from you as Gomer. Forgive us for loving other things, people and ourselves more than you. Forgive us for trying to love you and this world at the same time. Help us by your grace to cling to you. To love You with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. Oh Lord, we need you!
