The other day, my daughter asked how do they light up, why do they do that?
I explained my own scientific response which basically described this was their way of talking and letting the others know where they. (Not sure at all if this is true, but it sounded good).
Yet, tonight as I watched them fly and twinkle, I was very aware that they were there.
For they were actively shining their lights.
As I looked on their beauty, I was reminded of the fact that as Christians we are to be lights.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Mathew 5:14
Like the fireflies, we are to shine our lights ACTIVELY.
We are to be busy letting others know who we are and who we belong to.
Growing up I remember singing the song, “This Little Light of Mine.”
We’d sing it over and over with all the motions.
“Hide it under a bushel, NO, Won’t let Satan blow it out, NO. I’m going to let it shine.”
But aren’t we all guilty of this.
Guilty of hiding our lights, and sometimes of letting Satan blow them out.
We hide our lights because we are afraid. We hide our lights because we are lazy. We hide our lights because…..
And sometimes the worries of this life, the struggles of this world, cause our lights to go out.
When all the while, like the fireflies we should be twinkling, shining as bright lights in this dark world.
Let us then be like the fireflies.
Let’s shine our lights bright.
Let’s flicker and dance, letting everyone know who we are and whose we are!
Let’s shine for Jesus.
Pointing the lost to Him.
